HISTORY & PHILOSOPHY

New discourse on universal history

 Tradition & Modernity

Only few  works mark a milestone in the fieldsof political philosophy, or philosophy of history.

This book is one of those. Indeed, by means of a strict analysis and the systematic examination of  the Tradition and Modernity concepts, it proposes an overall and rigorously consistent vision of the human history, from its origins to the present day, and draws its deepest meaning, encompassing all the sides of the human societies : politics, économics, sociology, culture, religion.

This books tears down many generally accepted ideas and commonplaces, and thus demonstrates that:
- The higher non-voting is, the stronger democracy is
.
- Why no western power has ever been able to bring democracy  to a third-world country, and will ever be
.
- The XXIst century  will not be a spiritual one, and why
.
- Culture is now a fast-moving consumer good among the others, the launching and lifecycle of which follows the same rules as low-fat yoghurts
.
- Governments have never been as strong as they are nowadays…

It finally brings to light deep though hidden and unsuspected connections between events separated by centuries and even milleniums, e.g. the Punic wars and WWII.

And last but not least, this amazing feat is in a clear and accessible language.

This book’s targeted audience are the cultured people taken as a whole, looking for overviews that should be both concise and seriously backed up.

But particularly, as a synthesis work, it may also be used as a handbook by university teachers and students (in political sciences, philosophy or in any other course, provided that they have to take a general knowledge exam). It provides indeed the reader with clear and consistent views, enabling him/her to deal with many examination questions and topics in the most relevant and appropriate way.

« Modern mankind’s tragedy is to follow its historical destinywithout understanding it, J.-P. Esteoule  a eu raison de vouloir le lui expliquer [...] He brings the reader back to the true causes and drivers of the organisation of the modern societies, with their consequences on the individuals. […] He sheds light over the centuries on the increasingly violent conflict between tradition and modernity […] »
